To celebrate World Teachers' Day, the Department of Education bared its plan to enhance basic education.

On World Teachers' Day, October 5, Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro presented the 12-year "Enhanced Kindergarten-Grade 12 (K+12)" basic education program that the government hopes to implement by school year 2012 to 2013.
DepEd Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro (second from left) said in a press briefing that the K+12 program will make high school graduates globally competitive. Candice MontenegroTo implement the program, the Department of Education (DepEd) has to work with Congress to amend the existing law, Batas Pambansa 232 or the "Education Act of 1982," which states that the basic formal education is a 10-year program.
To amend the law and peg the basic education program at 12 years, DepEd has to conduct consultations until the first quarter of next year.
"After consultation, the law can be passed by 2013, before the next elections," Luistro said, adding that political will is needed to make this program possible. Read more here.

Never do we
The last few days have been a great mixture of all human emotions.
The rainy days have brought me sickness.
My tonsils are swollen. I have cough and colds. My lower back aches. So much for sugar n' spice and everythin nice.
I saw how good I am in diverting my attention towards "happier" things to forget the pains the past week has brought me.
But I cannot deny that whenver I stop thinking, talking, doing whatever I am doing, I will feel the pain again.
I reminisce of old, happier, sweeter times and I can't help but realize that things could have turn out better if I had been more vocal of my feelings. But to regret is to waste time. And to waste time is to lose in touch of reality. And to lose in touch of reality will rid me of being human.
Time would never heal wounds, mind you. We have control of everything. The heart never really heals. The wounds never become scars. But because it wants to be happy, the heart would ignore the wounds that the past has given it. But still, we never really forget.

I owe You an apology
Now I am convinced: CO2 emissions warm up the globe.
For the last three years, I convinced myself that natural occurrences and changes in the planet are causing this global warming and climate change phenomenon.
But after watching this video from Rob Dunbar, I cannot help but feel really bad about myself: how I allowed myself to be blinded by the incomplete facts that I have looked at, how I have become so fool to believe that human activities have very minimal effect on the environment compared to natural activities and phenomena such as Sun spots and cloud formation.
More than ever, there is a need from all of us to demand government and the private sector to do something about climate change and how this is causing ocean acidification.
Learn more about all these things that I am saying by watching this clip:
* Rob Dunbar looks deeply at ancient corals and sediments to study how the climate and the oceans have shifted over the past 50 to 12,000 years -- and how the Antarctic ecosystem is changing right now.
There are many negatives comment about RUb Dunbar's treatment of the data but what we need to focus on are the last few slides of his presentation where he talks about Ocean Acidification. Let us not forget that Earth is 70% water. It means, therefore, that we are highly dependent on what happens to the surrounding waters of our islands.
Lots of theories and researches have been presented and all those concerned have their own vested interests.
True or not, failed analysis or what not, one thing remains true: Man may be able to control certain aspects of Nature. But when Nature strikes back, there's no more reckoning.

I have escaped damnation
Since I am teaching my students Dante Alighieri's Inferno, I thought I should take a test to find out whether I will be part of hell and if ever, which circle will I belong to. Some of my students have taken the test.
Well, I took the test and am gladdened by the fact that I will not end up in Hell but will be in Purgatory.
Here is a closer look at the results of the test.
The Dante's Inferno Test has sent you to Purgatory!
Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
Take the Dante's Inferno Test
You can take your own shot and see if you'll be with me in Purgatory, or you'll end up in Hell, or you are beatified and will be in Paradise.

From touch screen to shape shifting
So if our world now is dominated by touch screen phones, cameras, e-book readers, and other gadgets, a PhD student, Fabian Hemmert has thought of a way of making technology "more human."
In his presentation he shared that he would want to have a mobile phone that can change its thickness and a phone that can "feel."
Watch his presentation below. Pretty amazing and mind-boggling at the same time. I wouldn't want to see my phone "breathing."

Survivor Philippines: Magan votes out tribe leader Buhawi Meneses - Entertainment - GMANews.TV - Official Website of GMA News and Public Affairs - Latest Philippine News
When he voted out Doc Ferds, I knew then on that the Magan Tribe would never win any immunity challenge. With only Elma Muros and Mico Aytona who could possibly provide physical agility during intense immunity challenges or simply provide for everyday sustenance, the Magan tribe will indeed see its last days.
It was great that the team voted out a preemptive and presumptuous leader who had opted to outplay its own tribe. Their tribe is a microcosm of a Philippines that should be: if a leader has created an ill decision only for his own benefit, oust the bogus.
Bad decision Buwi. Bye.
